Media Excel, the encoding platform of À Punt in Fallas 2019

Since the launch of its new multimedia platform last year, the regional television À Punt has been using the coding systems of the North American company Media Excel. Based in Texas, this company is a world reference in multi-platform OTT coding environments for Live, VOD and Transcoding, with clients such as Disney, MTV, Akamai, Sky, Vodafone, LG or Huawei among many others.

Crosspoint, a distribution company in Spain of Media Excel products and integrator of the multimedia platform of Valencian television, was responsible for the implementation of the Hero Live encoders, within the framework of its comprehensive OTT solution with other manufacturers such as Ooyala (OVP) and Konodrac (Big Data and Analytics), with publications in multiple windows: web, mobile applications, Apple TV, HbbTV and Smart TVs.

The Á Punt coding platform is composed of two Hero Live H5.DS7.4SDI servers that work in redundant mode to serve the publication of two 24×7 video and radio channels and 2 channels added for special events such as bugs and other events. In addition, in the case of Fallas 2019, a multi-CDN experience with simultaneous publications to the À Punt website and the pool signal to a special website dedicated to broadcast these parties has been successfully tested. The exceptional coding quality of the Media Excel equipment has been greatly received among users of the platform who enjoy a first level streaming from the web https://apuntmedia.es/va/directe/tv, as well as in the different platform devices.

Media Excel will be present at the next edition of the NAB in Las Vegas, showing its latest advances that include unique capabilities such as CMAF ULL (Ultra Low Latency) encoding, Live to VOD and VOD to Live flows with Virtual Playout, 4K encoding and transcoding and HEVC, and real-time conversion of DVB-Subs bitmap to text, among others.
